Match & Spot Fixing
I find myself in a minority when it comes to people discussing spot fixing and match fixing in IPL. Most comments go like these
"This is all farce. All matches are fixed"
"How can matches get so tight unless its fixed?"
"All the players are on the take"
"Srinivasan owns all the teams"
"CSK wins because Srinivasan has fixed it"
and so on.
I see two trends here.
1. Most don't understand cricket. Do people know what it takes to bowl one yorker? (forget 6 yorker's in an over). Even the best can miss it by length on a given day. A square cut reaches a fielder at point before the blink of an eye; even the best can miss it on a given day. You jump out to spinner to hit him out and the ball can just dip a fraction to beat you. It would be plain stupid to attribute all these to fixing. Yet people do and post them on all forums. They also seem to think that it is easy to get 30 guys on a squad to get together to loose (you can't get them together to win unless you are a great coach or captain) without the world knowing about it. Get a life. Get real.
2. As people we have fallen so much that we can't appreciate good efforts. We like to run down things and attribute things to illegal efforts. Is it that we see so much of corruption around is that we believe everything is corrupt? I would say that we are so corrupt ourselves that we believe no one can be clean. You see that all around you;
"He just got a promotion. Must have soaped his boss"
"He won a contract. Must have bribed somebody"
"His son got admission to medical. Must have paid capitation"
"CSK won. The match must have been fixed"
"CSK lost. The match must have been fixed"
There is a lot of goodness around us; look for it. There are great hard working people; appreciate them.
This way we will destroy good.
